Fiduciary-first counsel

We serve families — not products, not templates. Every recommendation is measured against what is right for your specific situation.

Coordinated with your advisors

We work alongside your CPA, financial planner, and insurance advisor so the legal and financial structures reinforce each other.

Generational perspective

Many of our clients are the second generation of a Harborview family. We plan for what you intend, not just what exists today.

Absolute confidentiality

Sensitive family information stays in a private planning file. The portal enforces role-based access — you control who sees what.

Catherine Voss, Managing Partner — Harborview Estate Law

Managing Partner

Catherine Voss

JD, LL.M. (Taxation) · State Bar of California #199847

Catherine founded Harborview in 1999 after a decade practicing tax and estate law at a Big Four firm and two of San Francisco's most respected boutique practices. She has advised families ranging from first-generation business builders to multi-generational family offices on the full spectrum of estate, trust, and succession matters.

She is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel — a distinction held by fewer than 2,900 attorneys nationwide — and has been recognized by Super Lawyers in the Estate & Trust category every year since 2019. Her practice is intentionally small: no more than 60 active client families at any time.

“Complex families need someone who will sit with the whole picture before recommending anything. The intake is where the real planning begins.”

A thoughtful plan.
A lasting legacy.

We help families, founders, and trustees create estate plans that protect wealth, minimize family friction, and hold up under the scrutiny that complex assets and relationships demand.

Private estate planning consultation at Harborview

The consultation is where clarity begins.

Most families arrive with fragments — a will from 2008, accounts that were never retitled, children who don't know where the documents are. We start by mapping what exists, then design what should.

Client perspective.

All names used with permission. Specifics reflect the client's own description of their experience.

We have property in California and Arizona, adult children from two marriages, and a special needs grandchild. Harborview mapped every piece in two meetings and delivered a plan that actually addressed all of it. No other firm we spoke with even asked the right questions.

R. & D. Harrington

Marin County, CA — Blended family trust with special needs provision

After my husband passed, I assumed the trust would handle everything. It took one conversation with Catherine to understand three things that needed to be corrected immediately. She was direct, calm, and completely trustworthy with information I had never shared with anyone outside the family.

Margaret A.

San Francisco, CA — Surviving spouse trust administration

We had been putting off estate planning for eight years. The intake process made it straightforward — we knew exactly what to bring, what would be decided in the meeting, and what the timeline looked like. Start to signed documents was six weeks.

J. & K. Nakamura

Palo Alto, CA — Revocable trust, business succession addendum

My CPA has referred three clients to Harborview. The coordination between their team and ours is seamless, the documents hold up to scrutiny, and the clients consistently report that they finally feel like they understand what they signed.

Michael T., CPA

Wealth advisor referral — Peninsula family office clients

Your family deserves a plan that is actually complete.

Not a will from 2011. Not accounts that still read “per the will.” Not a trust that has never been funded. A complete, coordinated plan designed around the life you have now.
